Who Pays for Care?
Hospice care is not free, nor is it inexpensive. But no patient has ever, nor will ever, receive a bill from Judith Karman Hospice. Judith Karman Hospice is certified for reimbursement under Medicare. This benefit covers the cost of most medications, nursing visits, and other comprehensive services related to the terminal illness which are a part of high quality hospice care. Costs which are not covered by Medicare are absorbed by the agency.
Although hospice services are often covered by private health insurance, such payments rarely cover the full cost of care. These un-reimbursed expenses, as well as expenses for uninsured patient care, are also absorbed.
JKH was founded on the belief that death with comfort and dignity should be available to everyone, regardless of economic status. All services are provided at no charge to the patient or family. Instead, JKH covers the costs using donations and charitable contributions, funding from United Way and the proceeds from its popular resale shop, Karman Korner. |
